Media Literacy and Digital Content Creation: Erasmus+ Mobility in Turkey, December, 2025

From December 15th –19 th, 2025, students and teachers from Romania, Serbia, and Türkiye came together in Manavgat, Türkiye, for the Erasmus+ project "Breaking The Filter – Media Literacy for a Global Perspective" (Project No. 2025-1-RO01-KA210-SCH-000380526).

The project aimed to help young people develop essential media literacy and critical thinking skills needed to navigate today's complex digital environment. Through a series of workshops, seminars, and collaborative activities, participants explored how information is created, shared, and interpreted in the modern media landscape.

Throughout the mobility, students engaged in interactive sessions focused on media analysis, digital citizenship, ethical journalism, and responsible online communication. They learned how to identify misinformation, evaluate sources critically, and understand the ethical responsibilities associated with creating and sharing content in the digital world.

One of the highlights of the program was the opportunity to participate in hands-on digital workshops, where students developed practical skills in content creation and media production. These activities encouraged creativity, teamwork, and active participation while strengthening participants' confidence as responsible digital citizens.

The project also provided a valuable platform for international cooperation and intercultural dialogue. Students and teachers from the three partner countries exchanged ideas, experiences, and perspectives, building friendships and fostering mutual understanding. Cultural visits and networking activities further enriched the learning experience, allowing participants to discover the history and traditions of the host country.

By combining education, technology, and international collaboration, Breaking The Filter successfully equipped participants with the tools needed to approach information critically and responsibly. The project demonstrated that media literacy is not only an educational priority but also a fundamental skill for active citizenship in the 21st century.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Özel Madalyon Koleji for its warm hospitality and excellent organization, as well as to all coordinators, teachers, and students whose enthusiasm and dedication made this mobility a remarkable success.

Together, we are breaking the filter and building a generation of informed, critical, and responsible global citizens.

Erasmus+ International Journalism Training: Strengthening Media Literacy through Investigation, Serbia, May, 2026

As part of the Erasmus+ project "Breaking The Filter – Media Literacy for a Global Perspective" (Project No. 2025-1-RO01-KA210-SCH-000380526), students and teachers from Romania, Serbia, and Türkiye continued their collaborative learning journey during the mobility hosted in Serbia, held between 11–15 May 2026.

This meeting focused on one of the most powerful tools in modern media education: investigative journalism. Through a combination of workshops, debates, field visits, and hands-on activities, participants explored how truth is uncovered, how misinformation spreads, and how critical thinking can protect democratic values in the digital age.

A Week Dedicated to Journalism, Truth, and Critical Thinking

The mobility began with a warm welcome session and program presentation, where representatives from the Serbian host school introduced the learning agenda and highlighted the importance of international cooperation in media education.

Participants were then introduced to the principles of investigative journalism through interactive presentations led by a professional journalist. Students explored key concepts such as journalistic ethics, credibility, and the responsibilities of reporting in a digital society.

Case studies of real journalistic investigations helped participants understand how professional media organizations uncover facts, verify information, and build trustworthy narratives. These activities encouraged students to question sources and think critically about the information they encounter daily.

Fighting Disinformation Through Practical Learning

A central component of the program was the focus on fake news and disinformation detection. In dedicated workshops, students learned how to identify unreliable sources, recognize manipulation techniques, and use digital tools for fact-checking.

Through teamwork and applied exercises in the computer lab, participants analyzed online articles and practiced verifying information step by step. These sessions transformed theoretical knowledge into practical digital skills that students can use in everyday online environments.

A team debate on the societal impact of investigative journalism further deepened understanding, encouraging students to reflect on the role of media in shaping public opinion and protecting democratic societies.

Learning Beyond the Classroom: Culture and Discovery

The Serbian mobility also offered rich cultural experiences that complemented the academic program.

Participants visited some of Belgrade's most iconic landmarks, including the Belgrade Fortress, the Military Museum, and the Sava–Danube confluence viewpoint. These visits provided opportunities for observation, photography, and reflection on cultural and historical heritage.

A full-day excursion to Zlatibor allowed students to explore natural and cultural landmarks such as Stopića Cave, the Sirogojno Open-Air Museum, and the famous Šargan Eight Railway. These activities encouraged environmental awareness and offered insights into tourism, heritage preservation, and media representation of natural sites.

Additional visits, including Avala Tower and the Monument to the Unknown Hero, enriched the intercultural experience and strengthened connections between participants.

From Ideas to Investigative Writing

In the final stage of the program, students worked on structuring and writing their own investigative articles. Guided by mentors and educators, they transformed collected information, observations, and discussions into coherent journalistic pieces.

This process allowed participants to experience the full cycle of investigative reporting—from research and analysis to writing and presentation. It also strengthened teamwork, communication skills, and digital literacy.

The mobility concluded with student presentations, where each group shared their work with the school community and guests, followed by a formal closing ceremony and certificate awarding.

A Transformative Educational Experience

The Serbia mobility proved to be a powerful learning experience that combined academic rigor, practical skills, and intercultural exchange. By engaging directly with investigative journalism and fact-checking techniques, students developed a stronger sense of responsibility as digital citizens.

Beyond knowledge, the project fostered curiosity, critical thinking, and collaboration—key competencies for navigating today's complex media landscape.

The "Breaking The Filter" project continues to demonstrate that education is most impactful when it connects real-world challenges with hands-on learning and international cooperation.

Together, we are not only learning how to analyze information—we are learning how to protect truth.
